New Years Resolutions
Talking to many friends and
associates, I have found that New Years is scary to many.
People are thinking about failure. Thinking about the
horrible year they had. Thinking about the many negative
things they think will repeat. I hear the many negative
comments and I see depression. What happen to the hope of
a New Year?
I think the best thing about New Years is that you can make a
new start. You can stop in your tracks and change.
You can decide to do something or not. You can set a goal
or make a promise. You can do something for yourself or
others. New Years is a chance to change direction.
Time to learn from the mistakes you have made.
It is a time for hope.
When I asked my BBW associates about there New Year's
Resolutions. I hear a common phrase,
I am going to lose
weight... not like last year. I am going to lose the weight...
then I will be a better person.
I then ask, do you
believe losing weight will really make you a better person?
What is wrong with the person you are now?
Well I will be
skinnier.
How does that make
you a better person? What does your weight have to do with
who you are?
I didn't receive many answers back. It made me sad that so
many men and women are valuing there worth by there weight... in
a negative way. Why should I take it as a compliment when
someone says. "You look like you lost weight."
Personally it took a lot of good food to make all these curves.
I am proud and I am not trying to lose weight. Instantly
people think if your Fat you must be trying to lose weight.
But this has nothing to do with weight. It has to do with
confidence and the false belief that you are better if you
become what others want you to be. This is about not
realizing your worth as the person you are. Weight or
anything else will not make you a better person. This is
about valuing yourself by what you look like or appear to be.
Instead of your actions.
When I think about New Years and Hope and Resolutions. I
think about changing for the better. Will losing weight
make you a better if the inside is exactly the same? There
are many wonderful and not so wonderful BBW and BHM people who
think that life will just fall into place when they lose some
pounds.
You will not be a better mother or father. You will not be
a better friend. You will not be smarter, or prettier, or
any of the other things you might think. If you have a bad
attitude and treat people like shit. Losing weight
sure isn't going to fix that.
Losing weight is a personal choice every big person has to make.
I cant encourage anyone in either direction. I am not
saying to stay fat. I am saying if for years your
resolution has been to lose weight and your not successful, you
either don't want to lose weight, or your feeling so bad about
yourself that you cant make the push.
Maybe it is time to evaluate what you really want as far as
happiness. What really makes you the person you are other
than weight. When you feel good about who you are and what
your doing. Losing weight for health reasons or any other
reason is much easier. You have the security and
confidence it takes to go for what you want. Helping
yourself from the inside out really makes a big difference.
You just have to make a choice. What would you rather work
on. You or the shell you carry. Personally I rather
make over my soul because that is what I will be remembered for.
HAPPY NEW YEARS -
Blessings to you all.
