LargeInCharge.com:
What is your name?
Michelle Wright: My name is
Michelle, but some call me Michi, Chelle, Chell, or Chink which is
short for Chinkie Ize,
LargeInCharge.com:
Where are you from and what is your current Location?
Michelle Wright: I currently
reside in Paterson New Jersey, born and partially raised there. I
have ventured into Hackensack, Bronx, and Englewood, but I wound up
back to my roots
LargeInCharge.com: Can you give us some information about yourself
(Age, Height, Size, Nationality, Marital Status, Children, etc.)?
Michelle Wright: I am a 29 year
old 5 foot 7 inch African American Female. I am happily married to
Robert my wonderfully supportive caring husband of 3 years but
companion of 10 years. I have 3 very active beautiful intelligent
children ages 8 -my daughter Megan, 4 –my son Robert Cassius, and 3
–my son Michael.
LargeInCharge.com: Were you a big child, or did you gain weight
later in life?
Michelle Wright: I have always
been a big child. I added lots more weight later in life also.
LargeInCharge.com: (If you were a big child) How did you feel
growing up as a large child?
Michelle Wright: I was
embarrassed most of my life cause I was always being made fun of by
kids and adults. Sometimes the adults can be more cruel than the
kids . It made me want to be skinny like the people on TV because I
thought that it was beauty and maybe people would stop making fun of
me.
LargeInCharge.com: (If you gained weight later in life) What caused
you to gain weight and how did you feel about it?
Michelle Wright: I added lots
more weight later in life with pregnancy, being inactive physically,
eating late and the wrong things and contraceptive medications,
especially the injection.
LargeInCharge.com: What made you decide to enter the LargeInCharge
model search?
Michelle Wright: I entered
because there is a place for everything. Whereas I may not be a
candidate to model for Victoria Secrets, Here at LargeInCharge I can
shine somewhere & the wonderful people at LargeInCharge gave me that
place to shine.
LargeInCharge.com: Do you have any experience in modeling? If so
tell us about what you have done.
Michelle Wright: I do not have
much modeling experience. I have done a few photo shoots to build my
portfolio. I have also been in 1 fashion show called “A Plus Is A
Must” hosted by Big Bold Beautiful Woman (a modeling organization I
was a part of), I am listed on Musecube, Model Mayhem, One Source
Talent, won Elegant plus Model of the month in August of 2004, Bear
Essence Model of the year 2006, and now chosen a cover model for
LargeInCharge. (Thank you)
LargeInCharge.com: It takes a lot of confidence to model... What has
given you the confidence you have?
Michelle Wright: My husband and
my children are my main source of confidence; they love me and
encourage me no matter what. I am also reassured by the different
contests offered such as this one. Whether I enter and win or not
the fact that there is a place for people of size is definitely a
confidence builder for me.
LargeInCharge.com: Did you find it a hard journey to be accepted for
your size?
Michelle Wright: It has always
been and always will be a hard journey for me and folks like me. I
feel it may be a little harder for me because not only am I plus
sized, but also considered “”super sized” which is a step above plus
sized. How ironic it is to be too plus for some plus size
assignments. But I don’t let that get me down. I am a fighter and
even if I don’t make it hopefully I will pave the way and/or inspire
someone else to make it.
LargeInCharge.com: Do you find acceptance among your family and
friends?
Michelle Wright: My friends and
family have always accepted and encourage me.
LargeInCharge.com: What would you say inspires you most in life?
Michelle Wright: First of all I
am inspired by my family, then by myself, because these are the
opinions that truly matter in life. I am also inspired by the fact
that I have to be a role model for my kids. I cannot possibly tell
them that they can do what ever they want to do in this world if I
don’t follow my own advice and do what I truly want to do. And also
I have to be a role model for my daughter because she is also plus
sized. She needs to understand being bigger that others is not a
curse, it’s just a pretty package in a different sized box.
LargeInCharge.com: What is your primary job?
Michelle Wright: Aside from
being a full time mom and wife, I am also a full time pharmacy
technician
LargeInCharge.com: How did you get into this line of work?
Michelle Wright: I started out
working in the store then the pharmacy needed help so they
transferred me.
LargeInCharge.com: Do you find acceptance in the work force?
Michelle Wright: I am accepted
in the department I work in but outside of my department, I
something hear snickers and talk of my size, but it doesn’t bother
me because I have come to realize that not everyone in this world is
open minded. Some still have their beliefs and opinions, and that is
what the world is about different beliefs and opinions.
LargeInCharge.com: What changes do you believe should take place for
Large People in the work force?
Michelle Wright: I feel that
people in general, whether in the workforce or in life need to
realize that we are all different. Variety is what the world is
about. We should stop trying to be like every one else. There is
nothing wrong with being different and not looking and/or thinking
like everyone else.
LargeInCharge.com: What do you think about the fashion industry for
big sized clothing?
Michelle Wright: The fashion
industry is vastly improving. There used to only be old fashion
styles for the bigger people. Now there is much more of a variety
for the young and more hip crowd, and lots more stores specializing
in plus sizes are coming up, as well as the older store (i.e.:
sears, target and others) are beginning to carry plus sized
clothing.
LargeInCharge.com: Where do you regular shop for your clothing?
Michelle Wright: Avenue is my
store of choice.
LargeInCharge.com: What do you wish to see change with the fashion
industry?
Michelle Wright: My main thing
is the clothes made more proportionately. For example I have big
arms and most shirts fit my body, but are very tight in the arms.
And with jeans I have a big butt so I have to go up a size to find a
jeans that fit, and that in turn leaves me with lots of slack in the
front. I also would like to see more true plus models modeling the
clothes. If they offer the clothes in a size up to 28 I would like
to see how size 28 models may look in the item. It would give me an
idea of what I may look like in it.
LargeInCharge.com: What changes do you think will happen if plus
sized modeling for men and women were to expand?
Michelle Wright: I think one
change is a lot more people will have greater self-esteem. This
would result because people will see that there are more people like
them in the world and feel better about themselves. The
possibilities are endless as to what would happen if the plus sized
modeling force expanded. It would probably spill over into movies
and TV, and this movement might change the minds of some of the
people in the world that think plus is a bad thing.
LargeInCharge.com: Tell us some of the places you buy your clothing
from.
Michelle Wright: I at times shop
at Ashley Stewart, Torrid, Lane Bryant, and surprisingly place like
Target, Old Navy, and Khols have nice things for the plus sized
individuals
LargeInCharge.com: Look at Size acceptance five years ago... look at
size acceptance now. What changes do you see?
Michelle Wright: There are many
changes. Many people are realizing that size 2 is not the only size
in the world. There are many more plus sized stars on screen and on
TV there are more plus sized models, and stores that wouldn’t
usually carry plus sized clothing are expanding their market. Many
more modeling companies are heavily recruiting plus size
individuals, and many people are starting to realize that there are
many plus sized people in the world an we need more products that
cater to us.
LargeInCharge.com: What changes do you think will happen five years
from now with size acceptance?
Michelle Wright: Hopefully we
can get rid of the concept of size acceptance. Maybe we can just be
like everyone else just different sizes, kind of like flowers, they
come in all different shapes and sizes but are beautiful in their
own design.
LargeInCharge.com: Tell us about your goals as far as modeling and
other interests.
Michelle Wright: I would love to
be a high fashion model, I would love to do runway shows, and what
ever else I am blessed with. I would love to be a motivational
speaker and an inspiration for others like me. I also want to act
but most of all if I don’t make it I at least want to be a stepping
stone for someone else.
LargeInCharge.com: Give us a sentence that inspires you.
Michelle Wright: Beauty is only
skin deep. (This is inspirational to me because some of the
prettiest people have a very ugly attitude which distracts from
their beauty. Everyone has their own interpretation of what beauty
is, but the person you are deep inside will always define your true
beauty.) Strictly my opinion
LargeInCharge.com: Can you tell us about an inspirational moment in
you life that made you feel good about your size.
Michelle Wright: Every time I
win a contest it is a wonderful moment in my life, but I think that
when a young lady contacted me and said that I inspired her, this
was one of the most inspirational moments, That and being accepted
as a LargeInCharge cover model. I thought about the concept of being
in charge, and that is what I am. I am in charge of my life and
don’t let others dictate what I should to because of my size, I am
living large and in charge of my own destiny.
LargeInCharge.com: Is there a person in your life that makes you
keep going?
Michelle Wright: My husband and
kids help me keep going. They are very supportive and give me that
unconditional love the sees no boundaries such as size.
LargeInCharge.com: What advice would you give to other people of
size who want to model?
Michelle Wright: If you really
want to model just do it. You will find lots criticism so make sure
it is something you really want to do. You must also have very thick
skin. The world ain’t ready for us yet so they still shun and
criticize us at times and can be harsh. Beware of scams and empty
promises. They are very rampant in the modeling world. Don’t loose
faith. There are so many different opportunities in the modeling
world; you will find something that will suit you. It may take time
so don’t give up. And last but not least do lots of research.
Research the people that contact you, the companies you are
interested in, research the type of modeling you feel you are best
suited for, research everything.
LargeInCharge.com: What would you like to tell the LargeInCharge
readers about yourself?
Michelle Wright: Not too much
really more to know about me. Most of it was included in this
interview, but if they have any questions they can contact me via
e-mail at cokopanda@aol.com I
love making friends. I love people.
LargeInCharge.com: Describe yourself with one word.
Michelle Wright: That word would
have to be ME. I know it’s not very creative, but it’s the only
person I can be. I am unique, and the only person I ever want to be
is me. God made me ME. And that’s all i will ever be no matter how
hard I try to be someone else. I love being me.
